Concrete in Winston County, Alabama
Winston County is the part of Alabama A&W knows best. Our yard sits in Haleyville and most of our finishers live within fifteen miles of it, so when somebody in Double Springs or Lynn calls about a cracked driveway or a new patio, we can usually be on the property the same week. That changes the way the work runs — we're not driving two hours to bid a job and then disappearing.
Most of what we pour in Winston County splits roughly into three buckets. The first is residential flatwork in town: driveway replacements in Haleyville, garage slabs in Double Springs, sidewalks and front-porch aprons in Addison and Lynn. These jobs need clean forms, tight joint spacing and a broom finish that actually holds traction through a wet North Alabama winter. The second bucket is lake work — Smith Lake has reshaped this county over the last twenty years, and almost every weekend cabin or new build between Houston, Crane Hill and the Arley side needs a poured patio, a pool deck, a boat-ramp pad or a retaining wall to hold a hillside lot. The third bucket is small commercial: medical offices on Highway 195, equipment-yard slabs around Delmar, and church and school projects scattered across the county.
The terrain matters more here than it does in flatter counties. A lot of Winston sits on Bankhead-edge ridges and Sipsey-feeder hollows, and that means a fair number of our pours involve sloped sites, narrow side-yards and access problems that small contractors can't handle without a pump. We run our own boom and line pumps, which is why we get called for the lake jobs other companies turn down. On the Bankhead side near Natural Bridge and Houston, we see a lot of rural property work — barn slabs, equipment pads, storm shelters and long gravel-to-concrete driveway upgrades on family land that's been in the same name for generations.
Commercial work in Winston is steady rather than huge. We pour for builders working the Highway 195 corridor between Haleyville and Double Springs, the courthouse square in Double Springs, and the industrial properties on the south end of Haleyville near the airport. We also handle a lot of the smaller municipal jobs — sidewalk replacements, ADA ramps, parking-lot patches — because we can mobilize a small crew without it being a logistical event.
Free State pride runs deep here, and the people who hire us tend to appreciate getting a straight answer about price and timing. That's how we run the business. If a job's not right for us we'll say so; if we can do it right, we'll tell you when we can be there and what the number looks like. No surprise add-ons, no upsells you don't need.
